This refreshing citrus iced tea lightly sweetened with honey is perfect to sip with the whole family! Thanks so much to Lipton for sponsoring this content.
You could say I’m a fan of happy hour, or at least the idea of it. I usually think happy hour involves grownups going to a restaurant or bar together, so as a stay at home mom, I don’t really get in on that scene. This weekend I decided, why shouldn’t our whole family be able to have our own happy hour together?? We made up a batch of this sweet and tangy Lipton Iced Tea, set out some chips and salsa, and celebrated the arrival of the 5:00 hour the fun way.
We had a really good time, so I think this is the start of a new weekend tradition! Evenings are usually very scheduled in our family, so changing things up a bit with an impromptu party instead of the same old dinner routine was a lot fun. This citrus iced tea really made the evening, especially because my kids could help make it! All it takes is slicing up fruit and adding it to the water for brewing the tea. Grownups can help with the boiling water, and older kids can help with the slicing.
To be honest, we were planning on having a cookout the day we had this family happy hour, but the weather didn’t cooperate. We spent the weekend in the country, and it was 100 degrees on our deck when it was time to fire up the grill! Iced tea is the perfect sipping drink while grilling, but it’s just as good indoors with fun finger foods. We did put the heat to good use though and made this honey citrus as sun tea. You can make it indoors with traditional hot water brewing, and I have instructions for both ways below.
This tea reminds me a little of sangria because of the infused fruit flavors, but the whole family can enjoy it (and it doesn’t make me feel like I need a nap). You can definitely adjust the sweetness to your taste. You could even make it unsweetened or or use a stevia-based sweetener if you are trying to cut back on sugar. You can also add a splash of orange juice for an extra boost of citrus flavor. As long as your sipping iced tea with your favorite people, you’re doing it the right way :)
What will you eat with your Honey Citrus Iced Tea? I have some of my own family-friendly recipes like homemade corn chips with Avocado Corn Salsa, and Lipton has even more ideas over at their Bright Bites site!
