No matter what kind of day you're having, one of these cookie bar recipes is sure to put a smile on your face!

Yesterday was my oldest’s birthday. He’s nine years old! We hosted the lamest food blogger birthday party you could think of, but he didn’t mind. He had a few friends over to watch a movie, and I served grapes, microwave popcorn, grocery store take-and-bake pizza, and a tacky bakery cake. That’s right. I didn’t cook a single thing myself! I was just trying to stay sane while having a living room full of fourth graders, and the kids had a fun time without noticing what they ate.

After a fun and special day yesterday, today took a nosedive when I found out that our beloved cat, Arbuckle, was killed by a car. I have told you about him before, but I think I only told my email subscribers that I have been trying to extend our back fence with chicken wire to keep him in the yard. No matter how I blocked his exits, he would always find another way out. We live on a pretty busy street in San Francisco, and I knew it was too dangerous for him to be out roaming around. I loved him so much, and I am so sad that I won’t see him again.

If I am anxious or worried, I lose my appetite. Apparently, if I am grieving, I eat. I have eaten kind of a lot today in an attempt to make myself feel better, but I wish one of these cookie bar recipes was available. These sweet treats would have been perfect for yesterday’s birthday party or cheering me up a bit today. Aren’t cookie bars perfect for any occasion?  Give your pets an extra cuddle today, and enjoy these recipes.

Oh Andi – I am so so sorry about Arbuckle. All pets are very important members of a family and you will always have a place in your heart for your special kitty. Cats do have a soul so take comfort in that.I give you a lot of credit for posting such wonderful recipes….thank you for that. Grieving eating doesn’t count for calories so do what you have to do to get through the going through. Keeping you in my thoughts.

Thank you, Janet. It has been hard for me. I want to run out and get another cat to try to fill the void, but I have gone to look at cats and none of them are as awesome as he was! I think it just takes time to recover and be ready to meet a new kitty. Thanks for understanding and for your support. xo

Sweetheart!Sound wearier Today! Well, your smile makes me feel happy every day I open up your blog to see what is cooking? When I figure out how to have a pic attached when I reply, I will do that. Have a pic of me and MY baby. Almost 18 and youngest of 4 girls. So I know how weary it can make one. Cold in the valley of the Sun also. From Wisconsin, so I know cold. Big hugs to you!! The pic I spoke about is on my only account,Pinterest.Following you of course! As well as, well lost count. Need followers,as keep maxing out my “followings”xoxoI have had a cat for 8years.Was bedridden for close to 3,and she stayed with me every day. Without her, well, they are such a blessing. I’m so sorry about the passing of your cat. Cats do have minds of their own and it sounds like he was well loved. I have lost several and know it hurts. I enjoy your recipe posts and will try some of these bar treats!

Thank you so much, Jody. He was a wonderful cat but SO determined to get where he wanted to go. I would add fencing to the yard, and he would immediately go to the spot to find the weak spot where he could get out. I know he enjoyed exploring, that I hate that this happened to him :( I really appreciate your support. Take care!
