Easy Twisted Pizza Sticks Recipe

Twisted Pizza Bread Sticks Recipe

Breadsticks were invented in Turin, Italy, in the 14th century BCE, and have since become a common food in many restaurants and homes. Many people all across the world love pizza. Even the pickiest of diners will enjoy the irresistible blend of delectable crust, sweet tomato sauce, and salty mozzarella cheese. However, it is frequently described as unhealthy because it may be heavy in calories, sodium, and carbohydrates.

These days-long-lasting sticks were firm, cracker-like, and shaped like pencils. The secret was to bake them until they were crisp enough without scorching. These crunchy yet delightfully soft garlic sticks are made from pizza dough. They are baked to perfection while being covered in handmade roasted garlic butter. Using up leftover pizza dough is simple, and you can also make your own fresh batch (or in a pinch, you can use store-bought dough). They make an easy (and delicious) appetizer that is good on its own or dipped in marinara.

These breadsticks made from pizza dough are incredibly simple and quick to make. They provide the tastiest starter or snack, which is guaranteed to become a household favorite. Simple store-bought pizza dough from the grocery store is used to make these breadsticks. They go well with appetizers for a game night or a holiday feast.

Twisted Pizza Breadsticks

These cheesy breadsticks eat like a meal or are great for a party snack!

  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 6 1x

Ingredients

Scale

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
  2. Roll each loaf of dough to a ½” thick rectangle on a well-floured surface (seriously, don’t forget the flour).
  3. Spread about 3 tbsp. pizza sauce over one rectangle of dough. You only want enough to just coat the surface or else it will be really messy when you get to the twisting step. (Don’t worry, there will be plenty of sauce for dipping!)
  4. Sprinkle about ½. pepperoni and 1 c. mozzarella over the sauce, and arrange the other rectangle dough over the top.
  5. Press the top dough down evenly, and then slice the dough into strips about 1½” wide. Carefully twist each strip of dough, and place the breadsticks on two baking sheets lined with a silicone mat or parchment paper. Sprinkle parmesan and Italian seasoning over the top of the twisted sticks.
  6. Bake in preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, until tops are golden brown.
  7. Serve with ample pizza sauce for dipping, and enjoy!

Why Love this Pizza Breadsticks Recipe?

  • The kids can assist you in preparing this quick and simple meal.
  • It uses simple and affordable ingredients.
  • Since most children enjoy pizza, these are usually a hit in most homes.
  • Nothing compares to a hot, fresh pizza crust that has just come out of the oven.

Storing Tips for Pizza Breadsticks

  • Pizza should be allowed to cool to room temperature before excess slices are stored for up to three days in the refrigerator in an airtight container.
  • Slices should first be reheated for about 30 seconds in the microwave, followed by 3–4 minutes at 350°F in a toaster oven. So, the oven will crisp up the crust and keep it from getting soggy, while the microwave will warm the inside of the twisted pizza.
  • These breadsticks can be frozen for up to three months in an airtight container or freezer bag.

Hey these look amazing! Just wondering if you could use pillsbury dough in like the can form. Just for simplicity sake. Thanks! :)

Andi Gleeson

Hi, Kate! I think you could definitely try that. I think the canned dough is sometimes a little “floppier” so just be careful with it so it doesn’t rip. Also, I think it might bake faster. If you try it out, let me know how it turns out. Thank you!

hi may I know if I would to make doigh fresh, should I use pizza dough recipe or normal bread dough.. As I see there is no proofing needed in the steps. Thank you:)

Andi Gleeson

Hi, Mae! I think you could use either, but pizza dough might be better because it wouldn’t puff up as much. Thanks for asking!

I think that should work, Caroline! Let me know how it goes :)

Hi!
Do you think I could make these ahead of time like in the morning and bring them to a cookout in the afternoon?
Thanks.

Andi

Hi, Jillian! Yes, you could definitely make them ahead of time. I think we grazed on them over an afternoon, and they were still plenty good after cooling off. Do watch them during baking though because I think the cook time depends on your dough. One reader said hers burned on the bottom, so I think you just have to adjust for your oven and dough. I hope you enjoy the recipe!

Is there any alternative kind of dough? If not, what kind of bread dough is it?

Andi

Hi, Anna. I used frozen white bread dough like Rhodes brand. You could also try these with refrigerator French bread dough like Pillsbury, but watch them while they bake since I’m not sure if that dough will bake more quickly. Hope that helps!

I’m Brazilian and turns out I won’t have those products available for buying, so, as I am really interested in those twisted pizza breadsticks, I would like to know if you can get me any recipe for that dough so that I can make it myself, I’d be very pleased if so.
Thank you for your attention…

Andi

Sorry you don’t have the ingredients available, Anna! I think any basic French bread dough would work. If you don’t have one you like, I might try this one. I haven’t made it myself, but you can’t go wrong with Steamy Kitchen!

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you find another recipe you like here with ingredients that are easier to find in Brazil :)

We made these tonight. Ours turned out huge and a little burnt on the bottom. Only had them in 15 minutes. But we are going to try them again and make a few tweaks. They were good besides the bottom. :)

Andi

I’m sorry yours were burned on the bottom. Oven temps can vary, so maybe yours needs to be set to 350. I’m glad you liked it otherwise, and I hope they turn out even better next time!

Okay, so you’ve got me drooling already! If there’s anything I love, it’s a bread-based recipe. I know man can’t live by bread alone, but I’m willing to try. :-)

Thanks for sharing a tempting recipe!

Haha, we may not be able to live on bread alone, but we can come pretty close. Besides, this has cheese, pepperoni, AND tomato sauce, so that’s a balanced dinner right there. Thanks so much for your visit, Becky!
