Fall Popcorn Balls with Reese's Pieces: Perfect treat for fall parties!

Back to school time says Fall to me even though it’s still August. If you are looking for a fun fall treat to bring a smile to kids’ faces, try these Fall Popcorn Balls with Reese’s Pieces!

Easy Fall Popcorn Balls with Reese's Pieces

These popcorn balls are made just like Rice Krispies treats but with popcorn.  I used a bag of already popped store-bought popcorn to make my life even easier, but popping your own is of course great too. Make sure you wait a couple minutes for the marshmallow to cool a bit before stirring in the candy or the Reese’s Pieces will all crack. (Some will still probably crack, but that’s OK and just helps to spread out the peanut buttery goodness throughout the popcorn ball.) I would like to tell you that this is an easy recipe because it kind of is, what with only four ingredients and no real cooking. Melted marshmallow is very sticky to work with though, which makes it a bit tricky. I used waxed paper sprayed with cooking spray to scoop and shape the balls, which made it easier and less messy. When I tried to use a spoon or measuring cup to scoop up this stick mixture, it was a frustrating mess! Serve these festive fall popcorn balls at your next Halloween party, school bake sale, or playdate and watch them get gobbled up!

Fall Popcorn Balls with Reese’s Pieces

These popcorn balls with candy are a perfect treat for fall parties!

  • Total Time: 18 minutes
  • Yield: 16 1x

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 10 oz. bag of mini marshmallows
  • 3 tbsp. butter
  • 8 c. lightly salted popped popcorn I used bagged popcorn
  • 4 oz. Reese’s Pieces candy

Instructions

  1. In a large microwave-safe bowl, add the marshmallows and butter and heat in your microwave on high for 2-3 minutes. Stir once every minute and remove when marshmallows are melted completely.
  2. In a very large mixing bowl, add popcorn, and pour hot marshmallow mixture over the popped corn. Gently stir until popcorn is well coated.
  3. Wait about 3 minutes to allow the marshmallow mixture to cool a bit (but not much longer because it will begin setting up quickly). Stir in the candy until well distributed.
  4. Lay out a large piece of waxed paper on your work surface to hold the completed popcorn balls. Take another piece of waxed paper about 12″ square, and spray one side lightly with cooking spray. Using the sprayed side of the paper, scoop a large handful of popcorn, and shape it into a ball inside the waxed paper. Peel the paper away, and place the shaped popcorn ball down to harden.
  5. Continue this process until you have formed all the popcorn balls. You may need to spray the waxed paper you are working with a few times with cooking spray if the popcorn starts to stick too much, and you will probably need two pieces to get through the entire recipe because the first one will become too crumpled.

Notes

If you have latex or plastic kitchen gloves, they would probably be easier to use than this waxed paper method! Just spray the gloves with cooking spray, scoop the popcorn, and shape it into balls.
