Yeah, that’s right. I said pork chops with apple gravy

I had never heard of such a thing either, but I saw something like this in a Taste of Home cookbook and needed to try it immediately. I already love pork chops with gravy, and pork chops with apple. How could I resist combining those two favorite dishes into one?

The original recipe called for heaving whipping cream, which is what I used, but it was very rich. That’s not a bad thing, but I made a note in the recipe that you could lighten it up a bit with half and half and still have a deliciously creamy sauce.

Pork Chops with Apple Gravy

Despite the apple juice in this recipe, the gravy isn’t actually very sweet. It is gorgeous, velvety, and a little fruity. I know I’m not talking much about the lovely, juicy pork chops here, but honestly the pork was mainly the car driving apple gravy into my mouth. I hope you have a chance to try this recipe this week. Please come back to let me know you like it when you do!

Pork Chops with Apple Gravy

Pork chops are browned and topped with a lightly-sweet apple gravy.

  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 4 1x

Ingredients

Scale

Instructions

  1. Sprinkle poultry seasoning, 1/2 tsp. kosher salt, and black pepper evenly over both sides of the pork chops.
  2. Heat butter in a skillet over medium-high heat until melted. Add pork chops, and cook approximately 6 minutes per side or until cooked through. Remove to a plate, and cover with foil to keep warm.
  3. Reduce heat to medium, and add apple juice and vinegar. Bring to a simmer, and cook for 5 minutes to reduce slightly.
  4. Meanwhile, stir cornstarch and cream together with a fork, and pour into skillet with apple juice. Add a pinch of salt and a few grinds of pepper. Return to simmer and cook until thickened, about 3 minutes.
  5. Serve pork chops topped with apple gravy and sprinkled with parsley if desired.

Notes

  • You can substitute 1/2 tsp. ground thyme and 1/2 tsp. ground sage for the poultry seasoning if you don’t have it available.
  • Adapted from Chicken with Apple Cream Sauce by Taste of Home.

Today is my Sister’s birthday in Louisiana and I am making this for her! I loved this recipe and I know she will too. At first she was like me a bit skeptical but she agreed to try it, I haven’t poisoned her yet ..lol..sometimes she has her doubts but it is mainly just the name that scares her. Today she is 59 and DOES NOT COOK. She doesn’t like to and won’t but she sure does love to eat. I love your blog and your recipes I really like. I am not on this health craze I just believe eat what you want and as always with life “in moderation”. Thanks for sharing !

Hi, Bea! Thanks so much for your comments! I saw what you wrote at Simply Gloria today too but am still catching up on replying to everything. I’m so happy you tried the apple gravy even though it sounded weird! I was like you when I saw the original version in a cookbook. I had to know what it was like and was pleasantly surprised. I feel so special that you like the recipe so much that you are making it again for your sister’s birthday! You can tell her Happy Birthday from me, and be sure to come back to let me know what she thought :)

Have a great night, and thanks again!

Thank you, Kelly! You might have noticed that the original recipe was with chicken, but I think apple and pork are such a good match.

Anything with gravy is my BFF. This looks so good Andi! Pinning!

Thank you, Jen! I guess this is really more of a sauce than gravy, but as long as it’s covering my pork chops I don’t care what it’s called ;)
