Longhorn Steakhouse is an American casual dining restaurant chain founded in 1981 by two best friends. Brussel sprouts are dense and fibrous. So, they need to be tender before frying them. You can do that by either blanching them or roasting them at a high temperature for several minutes. Whatever way you choose, it is important to break down the fiber by partially cook them first.

  1. First of all, prepare the brussel sprouts for cooking. Wash it, trim the edges, and get rid of the yellow leaves.

Should you roast or blanch brussel sprouts before frying?

I generally recommend blanching or steaming them before frying. This will lead to a more tender interior and still have a nice crispy exterior. Keep in mind you only need to blanch them for 3-5 minutes. You want them to be tender but still have some bite. Always ensure the brussel sprouts are fully dried before frying.

If you roast them first the brussels will be a little more flavorful and have a slightly crispier exterior. When roasting them make sure you toss them in oil and then roast for about 15-20 minutes at 400 until just about tender. You can then fry them immediately.
