Cherry Apple Sangria

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Invino for Markerly. All opinions are 100% mine.

Would it surprise you to know that I am bringing you a new sangria recipe today? No? This time it’s Cherry Apple Sangria, perfect for fall. It’s not quite as strong as my past recipes since it includes juice, and anything containing fruit and juice sounds like a healthy drink to me! While I love mixing up a pitcher of sangria, my standard drink is a glass of red wine with dinner.

What kind of wine you ask? I said red, didn’t I? Oh, you mean like what varietal of grape and all that? Uh… I don’t actually know much about wine beyond liking it to be not too sweet or expensive. It’s pretty sad that I’m an easy drive from Sonoma and Napa Valleys; I LOVE wine; and yet I know so little about it. Fortunately, there are wine experts standing by to pick out great wines just for me AND send them right to my door. These experts are the folks behind inClub, a customizable wine club based in Sonoma that learns your tastes and sends you personalized picks.

To get started, you get to take a fun quiz to find out your wine personality. Your result, along with your other membership selections, determines what the Invino team will send you with each order.

Now, back to this Cherry Apple Sangria. I found Morello cherries in the baking section at Trader Joe’s, but you can use frozen cherries from your supermarket instead if you can’t find them. I was really torn about whether to make this a red or white sangria. I used a light Pinot Grigio, but I was also thinking about a Merlot with cherry flavors. You can’t go wrong either way. Cheers!

Cherry Apple Sangria

This sangria loaded with cherry and apple flavor is perfect for fall!

  • Total Time: 4 hours 5 minutes
  • Yield: 4-6 1x

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 apples cored and sliced
  • 1 c. Morello cherries in light syrup or frozen cherries NOT maraschino cherries
  • 23 cinnamon sticks
  • 1/2 c. apple liqueur (like Berentzen, NOT Sour Apple Pucker)
  • 750 ml white or red wine try Riesling or Merlot
  • 1624 oz. sparkling apple cider (pure cider, not sweetened with corn syrup)

Instructions

  1. In a 2-quart or larger pitcher, add apples, cherries, and cinnamon sticks. Pour apple liqueur and wine over fruit.
  2. Cover and chill for a few hours before serving.
  3. To serve, fill a 12-ounce glass with ice, and pour approximately 2/3 full with sangria. Top with sparkling cider, and add some fruit to each glass. (You can adjust the wine to cider ratio to taste.)

Notes

Don’t get me wrong. Maraschino cherries and Sour Apple Pucker have their place, just not in this recipe!

I like your thought of possibly using Merlot with the cherries. For a party it might be great for people who are not normally red wine drinkers.

Thanks, Beth! You are right. My husband isn’t a big red wine drinker, but he does like red sangria. Thanks so much for stopping by!

Hi, Nikki. I’m sorry you are having trouble with the giveaway. I just tried on my iPhone and on my computer with Chrome and Firefox, and the entry window appeared in all of those places. Do you have either of those browsers to try?

No but I have an iPhone and still could not locate the form. Thanks for replying.

Sorry it’s not working for you, Nikki. I can’t do much to troubleshoot it since the giveaway code is provided by the sponsor, and I don’t know exactly how it works. I would recommend trying it on a regular computer. Thanks for trying!

This sounds fun to serve at a holiday gathering!

Hi, Susan! Sangria is great to serve at a crowd since it’s easy to make up a big batch, and you can use inexpensive wine. I think this one will be making an appearance at Thanksgiving this year at my house :)

I’m glad Jennifer asked how to enter. I looked and couldn’t find it either. Love the recipe! I’ll try it! We have our own little backyard vineyard, so all things wine appeal to me.

Andi

Were you able to find it, Susan? If not, let me know and I can try to help. A backyard vineyard sounds nice! My 6-year-old was just telling me the other day that we should grow some grapes in our backyard, but I don’t think we have the space or weather for that. Thanks so much for stopping by!

Thanks! I entered. Tell your son you can grow grapes in containers and prune them like little trees. Google Head trained grapes, and growing grapes in containers. There should be a variety that grows in your climate.

Andi

Thanks, Susan! We’ll look into it. We’re not far from Napa Valley, but it’s much foggier here ;)

Sounds good to me Andi! I don’t know much about wine either. When I describe what I don’t like, wine experts get mad and tell me what I “meant” to say! I don’t like wine experts (in person), on a computer might not be so bad. :)

Andi

I don’t like snobby wine experts, but nice ones who want to help me drink delicious wine are A-OK in my book. Good luck if you entered the contest!
