Thank you to Smithfield for sponsoring this quick and easy recipe for grilled pork and apple kebabs!
Last week I told you that we hadn’t had a grill for a long time because it’s often cold and windy in San Francisco, which doesn’t really feel like grilling weather. I definitely changed my tune after I spent last weekend in Texas. It is HOT there, y’all! Like, “I can’t be outside for more than 30 seconds” hot. I lived in Mississippi until I was 21, so I should be accustomed to it, but perfect California weather has ruined me. After wilting in the Texas heat for a few days, I am more than happy to freeze my tail off to grill in San Francisco fog!
What about you? Are you ready to fire up the grill this Summer but want something different than plain ol’ burgers and steak? Why not try pork on the grill? Except maybe BBQ ribs or wrapping other meats in bacon, I think poor pork gets a bit neglected during BBQ season. Not anymore thanks to Smithfield marinated pork! It’s hard to tell you just how tender and flavorful this all-natural pork is. You’ll have to try it yourself!
You can grill these fresh pork tenderloins or loin filets whole for an effortless dinner the whole family will love, but this time around, I decided to dice it into cubes and make tasty grilled pork and apple kebabs. To be honest, I thought grilling the tender cubes of pork might make them a bit chewy, but I could still cut the meat with a fork. This flavorful pork is so easy to work with, it seems almost impossible to mess it up! Pork and apple pair great together, and I loved how the apples turned out crisp on the outside and chewy in the middle. I think you’ll love this combination too.
Keep an eye out at your local grocery store for Smithfield marinated fresh pork sirloins and loin filets. They come in loads of flavors including Peppercorn and Garlic, Teriyaki, Garlic and Herb, and Mesquite (as used in this recipe). There’s a marinade flavor to pair with pretty much any recipe or side dishes you want. Smithfield also recently reduced the sodium in their products by about 25%, so it’s better for you than ever!
2large applesGala, Fuji, or Granny Smith, diced into 1–1/2” pieces
Instructions
Preheat grill. While grill is heating, alternate pork, apple, and onion onto 5-6 metal or wooden skewers. (Put apple or onion at each end of the skewers to hold the tender pork in place.)
Brush or drizzle reserved juices over prepared skewers to lightly season the apples and onion.
Carefully place the skewers on the hot grill. Flip skewers a quarter turn every 5 minutes until all sides are brown and meat is cooked through.

Thank you again to Smithfield for sponsoring this recipe. I am proud to be a 2015 ambassador for the brand. Don’t miss my other recipes using quality Smithfield pork!

We love grilling, but only in the summer. This summer I’m especially loving it because I started doing the grilling, myself! Can’t wait to try this combo, Andi!

I guess it’s only fitting that we do the grilling since we do most of the other cooking :) Thank you, Cathy!

Thanks, Jaren! If you do come to CA, I hope it’s to the SF area so I can meet you! If not, I’m going to try really hard to get to your neck of the woods the next time in MS.

We have family in Texas, and it is NO JOKE in the summer. We usually visit in February instead. :) These look like such a nice break from the typical grill meals.
