How do you like your holiday cocktail? I like peppermint and chocolate and eggnog just as much as the next guy, but unless I’m having it for dessert, I don’t really want my drink to be super sweet. I like to be able to describe my cocktail with words like “refreshing” and “strong” (but not too strong). 7UP is a perfect cocktail mixer because it is definitely refreshing but not overpowering. It adds bubbles, sweetness, and a light lemon-lime flavor while letting the other components of the drink shine. In this case, the other components are only three ingredients: Bourbon, cinnamon, and cherry juice. I happen to have tart cherry juice concentrate on hand, which I found at a health food store, but I’ve seen 100% cherry juice at large grocery stores. If you can’t find it, you have a couple options. You could thaw a few frozen cherries and muddle them in your cocktail glass before adding the other ingredients. Alternatively, you could substitute cranberry-cherry juice, which is usually very easy to find at any grocery store. Either of those options will still give you a delicious cocktail. I lucked out and found Mexican 7UP in pretty glass bottles at my neighborhood Safeway. Of course good ol’ American 7UP will be fine too, but I can’t resist a handsome bottle. You should be able to find all these other ingredients at your Safeway too, although you might need to substitute a different brand of schnapps or bourbon, which is totally fine. Since this easy, refreshing 7UP cocktail does require a couple specialized ingredients, it’s all the better to serve at holiday parties. Not only do cherry and cinnamon fit right in this time of year, but you won’t buy these special ingredients only to use a tiny amount for a couple drinks. Spread the cheer and make Spiked Cherry 7UP as your party’s signature cocktail, and you’ll be sure to put that cherry juice to good use! This might be the best Cherry 7UP EVER! Perfect for holiday cocktail parties!

  • Total Time: 3 minutes
  • Yield: 1 1x

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 1/2 oz. bourbon
  • 1/2 oz. cinnamon schnapps like Goldschlager or DeKuyper
  • 1 tbsp. tart cherry juice concentrate or 2 tbsp. cherry juice
  • 7UP lemon-lime soda
  • maraschino cherries and/or lemon wedges for garnish optional

Instructions

  1. Add bourbon, scnapps, and cherry juice to a 10- or 12-oz. glass. Fill 3/4 full of ice.
  2. Fill glass with 7UP, and gently stir. Garnish with lemon wedge and cherries if desired.

If you can’t find cherry juice, try muddling 6-8 thawed frozen cherries or fresh cherries in the glass before adding the bourbon and schnapps. You can also substitute cranberry-cherry juice.

This sound awesome, Andi! I used to go for super sweet but not so much anymore….I like your words “refreshing” and “strong” (but not too strong) :) Luckily we’re not hosting anyone this year, but that doesn’t mean I can’t still make a couple of these cocktails at home! Can’t wait to try them!
