Vegan fried rice with tofu and veggies is one of the most delicious vegan-friendly dishes out there. You can prepare it at home and flavor it with your favorite seasonings and sauces. Not to mention, it brings the taste of Chinese cuisine right into your kitchen! All of my vegan friends are crazy about vegan fried rice, mainly because it is super hearty and nutritious.
Being vegan doesn’t have to mean plain meals without taste! Knowing how to prepare a full of nutrients and still vegan-friendly meal is such a benefit nowadays. Being such a trend to skip meat and dairy-based foods from one’s diet has brought us (the amateur cooks) in urgent need of creative and delicious veggie dishes.
Cooking Vegan Fried Rice at Home
When it comes to fried rice, your creativity is so needed! Even though you can always follow my ingredient list below, I advise you to replace carrots and beans with your preferred vegetables. I found it essential to make this recipe your own, adding all your favorite veggies and changing the seasonings considering your taste.
After gathering the ingredients and deciding what you want to add and what you prefer to replace, it’d be time to start preparing the vegan fried rice. Keep in mind that even though it may seem a rather long recipe, it’s not difficult at all! However, you’ll see what I’m talking about when you get there!
Ingredients for Vegan Fried Rice
Here are the ingredients you need in order to prepare the vegan fried rice:
3/2 cup rice;
1 tablespoon vegan butter;
1 tablespoon soy sauce;
1 teaspoon sugar;
3 small onions/1 and a half big onions (diced);
1 cup green beans;
1 carrot (diced);
1 teaspoon furikake seasoning;
½ teaspoon salt;
½ teaspoon pepper;
4 ounces of tofu.
To make everything easier for you, I divided the recipe into 4 stages, each stage containing its own steps. We will start with rice preparation, followed by cooking tofu, and we will also talk about the sauce. Finally, we will use all of these in the final recipe itself.
Easy Step-by-Step Recipe
First of all, you will need to cook the rice separately. I will give you some instructions to make it easier to get the best rice without too much fuss!
How to Prepare the Rice:
Rinse rice before cooking. Repeat this operation until the water is completely clean (I personally did it around 3 times).
As an additional step, if you are not in a hurry, soak the rice for a quarter of an hour. This will reduce cooking time and will bring out more of the sweetness of the rice.
On a small heat, boil the water and the rice until the water is completely absorbed.
When it is done, set it aside.
How to Cook Tofu for the Vegan Fried Rice Recipe:
Secondly, your attention will be focused on the preparation of tofu. I have some easy steps to follow in order to have the best crispy tofu.
First things first, fold the tofu in an absorbent kitchen towel, then put something heavy on it so that the liquid dries out of it.
Remember that we do not use raw tofu, so we will line a pan with parchment paper, then preheat the oven to about 400 degrees F.
After that, take a wooden chopping board and cut tofu into small cubes. Arrange it on the baking sheet.
Bake it for half an hour or less until the edges of the tofu are golden brown and the texture is firm to the touch (the cooking time depends on the intensity of the fire).
Now that the tofu is well cooked, we are ready to prepare the sauce.
How to Prepare the Sauce:
Preparing the sauce is not difficult at all. We have only one step to follow:
Mix the soy sauce, sugar, salt, and pepper in a bowl.

Finally, we are ready to start preparing the vegan fried recipe itself.
*You will need to cook everything in a wok in order to have the best results.
First of all, turn on the heat and add the vegan butter. After about 1 minute, when the butter is melted, you are ready to add the onions. Keep them on heat and mix well. Remember not to brown them. So, cook them for about 2 minutes, until they are only well sauteed.
Next, add the carrots and green beans. Saute them for an additional 5 minutes.
After that, pour in the sauce, add the cooked rice, and the furikake seasoning. Mix everything together for about 5 more minutes before you turn off the heat.
Finally, add the cooked tofu pieces and mix them all together. Enjoy fresh!
Everything is done! There you have a vegan-friendly fried rice bowl for all your vegan friends! Good job! Enjoy your homemade vegan rice!
This fried recipe with tofu and your favorite vegetables is 100% vegan and delicious!
