I moved to a rural log home, at the end of a dirt road and heavily wooded—also, on a beautiful lake. The house is not directly on the lake (due to Corps of Engineers)so is surrounded on all sides by lots of trees. 20 plus miles to the nearest store! Love it! However, the internet and TV service is marginal.
We have Exede internet service–$80 mo. for 10GB of download per month, with free middle of the night download for 4 hours. The rotating rainbow and I are on intimate terms. I do not download movies. The service is slow and drives visitors crazy because I have to limit usage of most devices that they enjoy. Bonus–they spend their time outside playing and sitting on the porch! Rain and snow can cause outages. But–I do all my shopping online and get too many emails. As for TV–Direct TV is great. We had a second home in FL where we installed a DirectTV antenna. Then we just carried the TV box back and forth when we traveled–thus avoiding a second charge. They may have stopped this practice but you never know. Cell phone service is another problem. Text messages one through fine. Phone calls–I have to go outside or stand with my head to a particular window! I

Hi, Jan! Yes, this sounds like our situation! It’s beautiful and wonderful, but the thought of streaming Netflix out there is a joke. Would you believe we can’t get Exede?? There’s a tiny white strip of no service in California on their coverage map, and we’re in it. We can get other satellite service, but it’s still expensive and slower than Exede. We’re going to try dial up plus a cell signal booster to see if we could get by with those two options. At least we have a landline for making calls. Like you said, the lack of internet forced me to go outside and stop staring at my phone all the time, so it’s not all bad! Thanks so much for sharing your experience with me!
